An innovative approach to Aid in Nepal

Dublin based Ding partner with ActionAid providing top-up to mobile phones in the earthquake aftermath.

Dublin, Ireland, 18th May 2015 – World’s largest top-up provider, Ding is supporting ActionAid Nepal’s emergency response following the two catastrophic earthquakes over the last month. Ding is supplying credit to pre-paid mobile phones used by the emergency response team responsible for logistics and delivering urgent relief.

ActionAid has been working in Nepal for 33 years and therefore were able to respond immediately after the earthquake, mobilising its wide network of women’s rights groups and youth volunteers to deliver emergency relief packages including food packages, tarpaulins and medicine to those most in need.

Amish Shrestha, Coordinator, ActionAid Nepal said: “With a relief response of such magnitude, having solid communication in place between key ActionAid staff is vital to ensure seamless coordination of aid ensuring the most efficient response. It was an incredible support and as such we would like to extend our thanks to Ding.”

CEO of Ding Mark Roden said: “Connecting people by transferring top-up is particularly important in times of crisis allowing an efficient response for aid agency’s such as ActionAid. We felt they would benefit most from the connectivity top-up donations bring and we are delighted to be able to play our part by using our global top-up network.”

The number of people killed by the two earthquakes has already surpassed 8,500 making it the deadliest disaster in Nepal’s history. Since the first earthquake struck ActionAid has been working round the clock supporting approximately 74,410 people with immediate relief.

Ding has dropped all service fees to Nepal during this time to support communications between the Nepalese and their loved ones abroad.
